Much of traditional Feng Shui was based on common sense, mathematics, astrology and prevention. Today, traditional Feng Shui is combined with interior design and architecture, taking into account electrical fields (EMFs) and modern day building materials to apply it effectively to modern day living. There are many different schools of thought in Feng Shui, all with their own valuable contributions towards enhancing chi:
Form School Also known as Symbolic or Structural Feng Shui. This method involves assessing the quality of chi in your environment through the surrounding landforms and internal furniture and object placement. This method is most commonly written about in books on the subject. Compass School Also known as Eight House or Directional Feng Shui. This method involves locating the facing direction of the building and dividing it into eight compass directions; each associated with a particular direction of chi. The interpretation of each direction is associated with the eight archetype trigrams of the ancient I'Ching (Book of Changes). Each archetype has an influence over the people who inhabit the building.
