As a practicing Feng Shui Consultant, over the last couple of years it has become more and more evident that it doesn’t matter how much space is cleared inside homes, and remedies and enhancements added, it is now extremely important to examine the different types of stresses of the land, that may be contributing to a decreased functioning of the mind, body, and spirit - especially if there are sleeping or health issues. Examining the stresses of the land is known as Geomancy - geo = Earth, and mancy = divination of. The practice of Geomancy is about bringing people and land together to create a harmonious place to live. Geomancy bridges the gap between earth and ourselves...connecting person to place. The earth is alive and when we understand this we can begin to see that any imbalance in the landscape could create an impact on our health and wellbeing. Therefore geomancy provides us with the opportunity to examine and implement remedies where necessary to facilitate the harmonizing of the land that may be affected by different types of geopathic stresses. A site or home will have three influences; Yin, Yang, and Balance points which determine what is actually happening. Geomancy has been practiced by most traditional Indigenous, Celtic and Germanics cultures to find the most beneficial site for buildings that were to be a part of the social and spiritual work of the community. Today Geomancy is gaining a reputation around the world as an approach that helps make a difference to our place of living - on all levels. Different types of geomantic phenomenon or stresses

Scientific research is starting to realise that there could be a relation between illness and geological faults (the earth’s radiation). According to Integrated Functional Medicine, (www.ifmed.com.au – The Effects on Health, 2006) we are poorly informed with regards to the detrimental effects that the earth's radiation (geopathic stress) can have on humans, animals and plants. Rays which are emitted from the earth, are invisible to us. However they do exist and are stronger than X-rays, penetrating anything and everything. For example, they have the ability to pass through the steel and concrete in our homes. Illness frequently results when a person spends any length of time above earth’s emitted ray concentrations ie. intersections. For example, if a bed is located on an earth ray intersection, or if a person is stationary over an earth ray intersection at work for long periods of time.
Researchers Frei von Pohl and Kathe Bachler identified illnesses that had occurred because of over-exposure to earth’s emitted rays which they determined according to wavelength. These illnesses included; arthritis, headaches/migraines, Asthma, heart problems, Cancer, insomnia/night sweats, irritability, Kidney disease, cysts, poor concentration and learning difficulties, depression/melancholy, Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, gall bladder problems, nervous disorders/ panic attacks, abdomen pain/cramps, miscarriages, paralysis, thyroid problems, and digestive problems. Kathe Bachler conducted major research over several years interviewing 11,000 people in 14 different countries and testing 3000 flats and houses. All 500 cases of malignant and benign tumors that she tested turned out to be affected by some form of geopathic stress. Other sure signs of exposure were reflected in higher incidences of arthritis, rheumatism, multiple sclerosis and asthma. She also found the learning ability of children to be adversely affected, with 95 % of children having learning difficulties after it was identified that they were either sleeping or seated at school in geopathic zones. (Moore, A, 2004 Earth Radiation and Health, www.vitalessence.net). Now that we have become more aware of how the land environment could have an impact on our wellbeing, there is now a choice to remedy these issues especially if there is a reoccurring illness, and sleepless nights. Feng Shui and Geomancy complement each other and could help us to create a balanced lifestyle that we are all looking for in all aspects of life.
