I often get asked by Feng Shui skeptics for proof on whether Feng Shui really works or whether it is all really just superstition. To answer that, lets go back to the beginning of it's origins.... Feng Shui was a practice employed by monks which is believed to date as far back as 4,000 years ago. Monks were commissioned by the emperor to select sites for new villages, most importantly the emperor's palace and future burial ground. Both sites needed to be auspicious so as to bring the emperor and his family good luck on earth and in life after death (or in the next life).
Admittedly over the years, as the principles of Feng Shui have filtered down through generations, mostly through word of mouth initially, some of the reasons behind the principles were not passed on in full or perhaps even forgotten and what many people remembered was snippets of information which, used in isolation, meant very little, giving rise to superstition amongst skeptics.
It also places you in the path of incoming chi (energy flows in to the room and meets up with your bed) which can lead to unrestful sleep. So if you have trouble getting a good night's sleep or "switching off" at the end of the day, then I would strongly suggest moving the bed out of the path of the incoming energy or sleeping with the door closed. However, if your bed is in this position and you cannot change it, then you may wish to hang a door curtain in the door way or hang a clear crystal quartz sphere in the doorway to symbolically slow down the energy flow so that you can sleep more restfully. Feng Shui works with many symbolic elements to help bring balance and harmony to the home and many of the principles are also based on common sense. Placed with intention, these symbols can help you to create or maintain the energetic balance in your home.
