Walking the Mountains in China with Feng Shui Master Joey Yap April 2008

One of the most exciting moments in a Feng Shui consultants life is to be able to walk the mountains and chase the dragon vein’s in China. It is putting into practice our study of Luan Tou (landform Feng Shui) where we analyse the Incoming Dragon (Lai Long), the structure of the Landform Embrace (Sha Shou),water structures in and around the area and the quality of the land itself (Meridian Spot).

In April 2008 I joined 40 other colleagues from all corners of the globe in Jing De Zhen, Jiangxi province in China to start our 14 day excursion travelling to many out of the way areas to do what we all love best – Feng Shui. Joey Yap and his team had put together one amazing itinerary this year and I would like to share with you the morning of Day One of our adventure.

After an hour’s drive from Jing de Zhen (China’s porcelain capital) we arrived at Lee Ancestral Village at Wu Yuan (see the above photo).

Joey had selected three houses in this ancient picturesque village for our group to audit and to report back to him with our findings. The actual village was about a 5 minute cart ride from the entry gates where we noted a Military Arts mountain. This type of mountain belongs to the metal element and is round and looks similar to an ashtray turned upside down. It represents power, authority, status and intelligence.

The village was situated on a very gentle curvy river and at the top of the river sat a Greedy Wolf Mountain (Tan Lang). This type of mountain looks like the shape of a cucumber and represents the element of wood. Any good quality land has a Greedy Wolf Mountain and these types of mountains represent nobility, elegance, status and position.

This is where our work started, we were given 3 houses to audit and to report back with our analysis.

House 1 – a lumberjack’s house. Our analysis showed that the house itself was not receiving any Qi from the river as the door was located away from the flow of the river. There was also no Ming Tan (external bright hall) to receive the Qi into the home.

House 2 – a plaque was situated at the entrance to this home – Darfu Residence – the richest man in town lived here. This was a hint for us all. He is a High Official in the town. Observing the flow of the river closely we noted that the door on this house was tilted towards the incoming flow of the river. Just upstream there was also a convergence of two rivers – a water mouth. Looking at the other houses around this one we noted that they all faced the river squarely and were positioned quite close to the river bank – so no Ming Tan either.

House 3 – situated further upstream and away from the river itself sat a small home with a plaque showing that Wu Zhuang Yuan had lived there – he was a very famous Martial Arts Scholar. 34 generations have lived in this house. It consisted of a main hall, a small room with a kitchen in between the two rooms and a man made pond at the front of the home with a steep mountain at the facing of the house. The mountain was too high and too close to the house to be a table mountain (a mountain that is to lock the Qi in) and the pond was positioned to actually slow down the rushing Qi from the mountain to enable it to enter into the home. We were informed that each generation produced a scholar and right outside the home directly upstream in the east direction sat a Seated General Military Arts mountain. From this position the house was the first in line to receive the Qi.

What a morning! The rest of the excursion found us in remote areas climbing mountains, sailing down rivers, viewing many graves and houses by some of our very famous Feng Shui Masters such as Grand Master Yang Yun Sung and Master Lai.
